Frequently
Asked Questions
Q.
Do I need to book?
A.
No, you don't. There are
beginner's classes every week. You
can turn up whenever you want, and if you miss a week or two it doesn't matter
too much. We will be teaching each dance for two weeks at a time, re-capping the previous week's
lesson - so it doesn't matter if you miss a week.
Q.
Do I need to come with a partner?
A.
Not at all. We invite everyone to move around in the classes. This is not usual practice in Latin and
Ballroom lessons, but we have found that as a social sport it is more fun if
everyone dances with everyone else. You learn more, too.
Q.
Does it matter that I have never danced before?
A.
No. You will be taught
from absolute basics. Most lessons start with mastering standing up, and
move rapidly on.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Anything but stilettos. This goes for women, too. As long as
you are comfortable, you should be fine. Men in stilettos, even if they
are comfortable, should think again.
Q.
Can I do more than one class each evening?
A. Yes, beginners should certainly do the first two classes. You
should be able to do the intermediate class in no time.
Q.
Will refreshments be available?
A. We will be providing tea and cake each evening, and you can
bring your own drinks and picnic, or Kendal Mint Cake if you wish. Glasses
of water are always available.
Q.
Will there be time to practice?
A. There will be a chance to practice during the break (if you want to miss
out on cake, or can dance drinking tea and eating cake), or you can practice after the classes.
Q.
Is private tuition available?
A. Yes, just ring, e-mail us or ask on the night
Q.
Do you teach couples in preparation for their first dance at their wedding?
A. Yes, click here.
Q. Where can I get
dance shoes?
A.
There
are a couple of local shops (depending on where you are, of course). The local
favourites are Let's Dance! They
have a shop in St.Albans and are highly recommended. They carry
stocks of Roch Valley and Capezio, but are very helpful and will order whatever
you usually wear from other manufacturers. Way up North in
Stevenage there is Stagedoor. They trade at the Indoor Market, St.George's
Way, and do all sorts of dance trainers and shoes. There’s also one towards Watford
called Heavenly Dance Shoes
who make to order. This will appeal more if you have strange feet or a
desire distract people's gaze from another area to your shoes.
