Berkhamsted Town Hall closed for business in March 2008

...the Berkhamsted and District Chamber of Commerce (Chairman Ron Cowie) has selected Berkhamsted Town Hall (Chairman of Berkhamsted Town Hall Trust - Ron Cowie) an award as Business of the Year. Some things are beyond satire. The story is here. Ron Cowie is a Tory Councillor.

Many thanks to everyone who attended the last night party. It was a truly wonderful evening with a record number of people showing their support and dancing the night away. As a result of the evening a cheque for £700 was delivered to our friends at Open Door to pay for a very big washing machine! Peter and Alyson Stapleton from Open Door are pictured below in a cheesy grin contest as the cheque is handed over. The news story is here...

The Town Hall Trust's annual report to the Charity Commission states that: "The Trust's object (sic) is to provide community facilities for the area." By closing this venue Ron Cowie (Conservative councillor and Chair of the Town Hall Trust) has, despite overwhelming public opposition, undertaken exactly the opposite. You can ask him why on 01442-873375. We would suggest writing or e-mailing but he has, as yet, been unable to extend the courtesy of a reply to anyone.
